Points hide the learning. Decisions are the learning. Asking about decisions tells your player that thinking is the skill being measured.

1. What did you see on your best play tonight? 2. When did the ice feel crowded, and what did you do about it? 3. What is one read you want to work on next practice?

What to leave alone

Refereeing, ice time, and other players. None of it is inside your player's control, and every minute spent there is a minute not spent on the read.
